The City of London is famous for its modern architectural cityscape, especially its high-tech towers – a diverse collection competing to be the tallest or most dramatic. This set of images was created on a single day’s visit blessed with a clear blue sky that created bold contrasts and also many fascinating reflections in the expanses of glass.
I have combined the towers’ architectural features with less famous buildings at street level. My favourite low level building was the café in Aldgate Square, with its pleated ‘designer rust’ roof. On high, the blues and greens of the Fenchurch Street skyline, real and reflected, were transfixing.
Abstraction is created from the buildings’ shapes and colours, the shadows and reflections, architectural details; sometimes combined using in-camera multiple exposures.
